You Bet Your Chimichangas They be GOOD

I just Love the influx of Mexican families moving into the downriver area over the last decade to open many new restaurants with a dozen in just the last year. Being born and raised in SW Detroit there really is no need for me to travel to Mexican Town with a couple dozens great family eating spots around our area now. Julio’s had be plating up traditional real deal meals for a decade making hundreds of regular customers eating in and carry out.

We always start  with the Queso Flameado that’s loaded with pepper, onions, chorizo in melted bubbly cheese.  We always get a Chimichanga dinner with the succulent chunky beef and a salad,,which is a great option to replace the rice and beans that I never eat. I so wish many other Mexican place would offer this option as a healthy option,,, I’d even pay a little more.
Yes sir indeed they be really great Chimichangas really the best around town.

Also had taco’s and lunch special Botona that comes with a drink, WOW it’s fantastic. Just a few weeks ago they now are open on Sunday with few new special dishes reserved for that day,,, my favorite is the traditional Red Pozole loaded with chunks of Pork Shoulder and Hominy along with many other goodie, this dish is mainly made for celebrations and holidays that’s I real treat as many places don’t make this. Also a special shredded pork Taco marinated in Pineapple Juice with Bacon added,,whoa I really need to try these on a Sunday soon. Please support a family run operation that supports downriver. I’ve been enjoying all these new ethnic eating spots around the area which supports our towns since the money stays here.

Dessert the Cheesecake Chimichanga was Amazing, stuffed very a light fluffy cheese inside a deep fried flour tortilla and topped with Strawberries, Powdered Sugar and a dollop of Cool Whip outstanding. Fast friendly service with a smile in the spotless clean eating spot will keep you coming back for more.

Pupusa,Platanos Tamales and some YUCA too

Salvadoran national dish is a thick, handmade corn tortilla stuffed with cheese or more. A handmade tortilla is night-and-day different from the thin floppy kind from the factory. You can barely find a handmade tortilla anymore. There’s much more than pupusas on the menu, of course, for Central Americans seeking a taste of home or for Mexicans or gringos who want to branch out. My favorite is the Queso Cheese with Jalapeno’s off the chart great. You eat da Pupusa by topping with the Curtido a spicy slaw mix then splash with the red sauce then fold together pick up up and eat,,whoa what a messy goodness.

The white corn (elote) tamal is quite different: sweet and served with le crema, imported from El Salvador. Not to be missed are fried plantains, a dish made in heaven. It consists of seven warm, fat, sweet perfectly browned plantains, served in the traditional manner with a pool of warm puréed black beans and another pool of cooler crema. These dishes are offered with refried beans and cheese for a unique combo of indulgence which was enjoyed by all,,,a  must try for something very different to add to your palate.

By far this place is one of the most unique eatings spots around the Detroit area which is centrally located on Livernois just south of I-94 or North of I-75 exits. The place sets back a bit from the street at the corner of John Kronk with a very large parking lot it’s easy in and out. The media has had many super articles about the amazing meals to fill your belly. The fast friendly spotless clean restaurant will make for a fabulous adventure in your new foodie adventure, you be a regular like me taking family and friends to enjoy a true South American treat.   ENJOY

Tamales,Tres Leche,Churro and Three Kings Bread

The moment you walk in, the smell of sugar, butter, and freshly baked bread (oohh how I love theehypnotizes youAll the pastries are stored in trays behind huge glass cases– – grab a pair of tongs and a tray and load up!

You really must try those mega Cinnamon Rolls topped with Chocolate I’m addicted to these, see them in the lower left in the the photo below
Oh My those Chicken and Pork Tamales that are made fresh daily for only 10 bucks per dozen a must try along with the most flavorful Salsa mama makes, I really hope they start selling by the Quart,,, Yes it’s that good.
Bread Pudding Cake a unique treat in photo above, sold by the slice a mouthful of flavor, think the old Sveden House bread pudding and now in cake form, whoa this is great another must try.
It is traditionally eaten on January 6, during the celebration of the “Día de Reyes” (literally “Kings’ Day”), which commemorates the arrival of the three Magi or Wise Men. In most of Spain, Spanish America, and sometimes, Hispanic communities in the United States, this is the day when children traditionally get presents, which are attributed to the Three Wise Men . In Mexico before children go to bed, they leave their shoes outside filled with hay or dried grass for the animals the Wise Men ride, along with a note.
The tradition of placing a trinket (figurine of the Christ Child) in the cake is very old. The baby Jesus, when hidden in the bread, represents the flight of Jesus, fleeing from King Herod‘s evil plan to kill all babies that could be the prophesied messiah. Whoever finds the baby Jesus figurine is blessed and must take the figurine to the nearest church on February 2, Candlemas Day (Día de la Candelaria). In the Mexican culture, this person also has to throw a party and provide tamales and atole to the guests.

Torta,Queso Flameado,Burrito & Amazing Salsa

To die for Salsa!!! – Tijuana’s serves excellent food but their salsa cannot be beat. The food as always at the 2 other location’s always spot on with Queso Flameado, Salsa,Tamale,Chunky Beef Burritos Tacos and a Mexican Pizza. My alltime favorite is the Queso Flameado made with melted cheese loaded with Chorizo plated up bubbling hot with house made flour tortillas which I order every time along with the popular on Mexican sandwich called the Torta with either steak or chicken. The Salsa is by far the best you’ll try in the area with many stopping in just to purchase bags of chips and salsa to go.

Tijuana’s is a family owned and run operation started over 20 years ago in Southwest Detroit with locations in Lincoln Park,Southgate and Dearborn Michigan. The express location in Southgate has the real deal El Grande Burrito Lunch Special
